About Us

They look like brothers, (you choose which one is older) but meet Steve and Craig Emery, the uncle and nephew duo, Directors of Desert Gateway Dirt Bike Tours. Being only 5 years apart in age, Steve and Craig grew up pushing their Tonka trucks around in the dirt under Steve’s house and when they could walk and talk, they journeyed their motorbikes over the sandhills of Cunnamulla.

Steve & Craig were born and bred in Cunnamulla in far western Queensland, a township that sits proudly on the banks of the Warrego River in the Paroo Shire. Cunnamulla is 740 kilometres from Brisbane and 140 kilometres from the NSW border and is the home of the Cunnamulla Fella. As lads growing up in western Queensland their adventures took them far and wide, enjoying being country kids and pursuing their number one passion of riding dirt bikes in enduros and gymkhanas in the neighbouring townships of Eulo, Thargomindah and Hungerford and still to this day they compete regularly.

Thargomindah is DGT home base. Thargomindah is truly the gateway to the desert! Located on the Bulloo River and within the Bulloo Shire, although tiny and quiet, it offers most services – a motel, caravan and hotel accommodation and a range of eating options. When it came into existence in the 1870s and 1880s the town’s main activities were servicing the stations at Bulloo Downs and Durham Downs. Later it became an important stopover for carriers taking wool from Queensland to the steamers which travelled down the Darling River from Bourke to South Australia.
Alive with colour, beauty and culture, South West Queensland will lure you back time and time again. Desert Gateway Dirt Bike Tours will take you from the sealed Adventure Way and across the channel country to experience the Queensland desert in all its natural glory.
